FERNANDE HÉLÈNE SWYER

née Rumbaut

Fernande passed away peacefully at home, on June 15, 2023, just six months short of her 100th birthday.  She grew up in Flanders, the Flemish speaking northern part of Belgium where she met her future husband and our father, the late Dr. Paul Swyer, an English doctor who was stationed there as a medic during WWII.  They married in England in 1947, immigrated to Toronto in 1953, where she remained Dad’s beloved and supportive wife for 73 years, embracing life with her eminent neonatologist husband. Together they enjoyed skiing, tennis and travelling the world.  She leaves daughters: Sandra (Alan Dennis) and Michèle (Phil Meades), five grandchildren (Jessica, Jeremy, Gregory, Jonathan, Elijah) and six great-grandchildren, to whom she was affectionately known as “B.Bonne”.  She will be deeply missed by all of her remaining family and her two caregivers, Thelma Orbon and Glenda Brown, and their families.  Their strong love, dedication and commitment enabled Mom and Dad to live a long life comfortably in their own home. We thank them deeply.
