After a long illness, Mark Hall died peacefully at the Timmins and District Hospital on February 20, 2024. Because of Mark’s faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, his family rejoices that the first thing Mark saw as he exited this life into the next was the beautiful face of his Saviour. Throughout his life, Mark continually fought and defied the odds. He was a high school dropout, eventually trading in his motorcycle, his pilot’s license, and his job at a paper mill for a second chance to get his high school diploma. Years later, with a devoted wife by his side and young children on his lap, Mark completed his university degree and teaching certificate while holding down a job as a rookie elementary school teacher at Timmins Board of Education. Mark was a strong advocate and worked closely with students with special needs. He loved his time as the Principal of both Porcupine Regional School and Brousseau Avenue School. His children have fond memories of going with dad to Brousseau Avenue School to help special needs children with Jump Rope for Heart. Through his perseverance and unwavering dedication to students and families, Mark eventually became the Superintendent of Schools and then the Director of Education at District School Board Ontario North East. Mark’s toughest adversary, however, was cancer, a recurring illness that he continually fought and beat for over 20 years until he eventually succumbed to health complications. Despite serious health problems in his later years, Mark cherished his roles as a great husband and father and the proudest grandfather to his beloved grandchildren. He leaned on Jesus during this difficult time, taking comfort in scripture in his suffering. Mark looked to the Book of Job and had great faith and trust in his Redeemer even though he did not fully understand why he was suffering.
Mark is survived by his loving wife Lozanne; his children Tamara (Karl), Jeremy (Melissa), Jessica (Sandra), and Joshua (Paula); his cherished grandchildren Jacob, Liam, Nicholas, Jonah, Alex, Faith, Emily and Charley; his sister Alberta Leppan; and his “dog children” Marley and Bella. He is predeceased by his parents Lloyd and Elsie Hall and his granddaughter Gracie Hall.
