In my 11th grade, following the passing of my grandfather, I fell seriously ill, shedding 25% of my body weight. My family, doctors, and I were bewildered and lost, unable to grasp what was happening. A routine visit to SickKids Hospital turned into an immediate admission. For the next month, the incredible staff at SickKids held my hand through some of the toughest battles I've faced. It was there that I was diagnosed with one of the most aggressive cases of Crohn's disease seen at SickKids Hospital in a decade.
SickKids didn't just care for me in the hospital; they continued their support beyond its walls. They advocated for me with my school, ensuring I received the accommodations I needed to finish my 11th-grade year. Their unwavering care not only helped me overcome health challenges but also ignited a passion for medicine. Now, as a pre-med student at Western University, I'm driven by a desire to give back.
My gratitude to SickKids runs deep; it's a commitment to raising awareness. Whether through collaborations with Crohn's and Colitis Canada or social media advocacy, I'm dedicated to sharing my story, inspired by the profound impact SickKids had on my life.
Join me during MSBA's in-season tournament on June 8th at Tom Chater Memorial Park as the MSBA Peewee Cardinals shave Coach Austin's head!
*Time of shave is TBD will update once tournament schedule is out
