August Peter Aslanidis was born on February 15, 2024, and passed away peacefully in our arms on February 28, 2024.

August was a strong, fierce little warrior who fought so hard during his time here. He was a perfect, beautiful boy who is so loved. We are so proud to be his parents and we will spend the rest of our lives honouring his memory. 

Shortly after birth, August was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect called Transposition of the Great Arteries and was admitted to the Cardiac Critical Care Unit (CCCU) at SickKids Hospital. We would like to raise funds for the CCCU at SickKids in memory of August. 

In the CCCU, August was cared for around the clock by compassionate nurses who also allowed us to be his parents first and care for him as parents would. They went out of their way to make sure that we made meaningful memories with him during our time there. 

August’s care team consisted of dedicated and expert physicians including Dr. Honjo and Dr. Oshri who did everything within their power to help August. It was clear that they genuinely wanted the best for him and our family.   

Despite all of their efforts, there was nothing more anyone could do and it was time to say goodbye to our baby. When we were faced with that harrowing reality, the staff at SickKids were there to support and guide us through. With the support of a grief counsellor, we are navigating how to move forward while honouring and remembering our son. One way we would like to honour him is by giving back to SickKids.

August will live on forever - in the air, the moon and the stars.
